Butterfly attraction
acrylic on panel
12" x16"
$350

This painting is inspired by the beautiful butterfly bushes that are everywhere in the garden at the Whistler House Museum http://www.whistlerhouse.org/. The painting is in an abstract contemperory style with complementary purple and yellow playing off each other, it is about creating an outdoor garden mood set in a pleasing composition.
The butterfly bushes are significant because the artist, James McNeill Whistler's "monogram 'J.W.' was developed into a 'butterfly' signature in c.1869 and gradually evolved over the next thirty years, acquiring antennae, veins and a tail."http://www.whistler.arts.gla.ac.uk/miscellany/butterflies/
