Description:

Mixed Media Painting and Drawing is meditative. Through building layers you will create variety and interest in your work. In this workshop you will explore many ways of constructing a painting through merging collage elements with paint . We will use water-based paint as the basis for the overall composition, then start building, layering and merging components to create an abstracted and expressive interpretation of your subject.

Emphasis will be on interpreting rather than copying, simplifying detail and shapes, and embracing creative opportunities for unexpected results. Find your creative voice as you discover how various media work together and what processes best align with your vision and goals. You will leave this workshop with strategies for going beyond traditional realism through combining media for a more personal expression.

Examples of artists to look at for inspiration - Tracey Amin, Pablo Picasso, Kurt Schwitters, George Braque, and Cy Twombly.

Materials: Students should purchase the materials prior to the class: Materials List.docx

About the instructor

Priti was fortunate to learn painting from a very young age.  The hustle-bustle of everyday life, nature, city life, suburbs, people, seasons, colors, and moods are the inspiration. She works with several media. Using different media and the way she uses colors in both realistic and abstract paintings has contributed to her style. Her work represents many years of studying as well as personal artistic growth.

Today, she offers high-quality fine art instruction, the curriculum includes the use of several media - pencil, charcoal, soft pastels, oil pastels, watercolors, and acrylics. She teaches all mediums and all genres of art, adding to her student’s painting concepts via selective use of design elements, color, and composition. Many of her younger students went on to study further at MassArt and RISDI.

She also conducts Paint Along Workshops. Recent venues include EMC, RSA, Fidelity, Realtor's Assoc.  several public libraries, several senior centers, local restaurants, private and charity events.

Mixed media Acrylic and Collage on wood panel

The warm weather is here in New England and it reminds me of summer vacations and running around with my (younger) kids in the park.

This painting has many surprises and beautiful marks that come up when you are just exploring and experimenting. The implied movement of round red balls amongst the grass green and sandy white passages reminds me of kids running and playing ball on a bright sunny day.
Abstract marks are so mesmerizing!!!
