24"x24"
Acrylic and mixed media on wood panel
$1459

This painting has been reworked from an older painting from "Off The Grid" series.

‘A River Runs Through It’ is created for you to immerse yourself in a world of circles, lines, shapes and mark making as they reveal their inner secrets. This painting explores the subtle balance between order and chaos, darkness and light, structure and freedom, within the large format composition.

This is mixed media abstract and acrylic painting on a large wood panel. My process involves building up layers of paint and collage as I express myself emotionally. I work on multiple pieces at one time exploring the same idea or theme in different ways. Working on many pieces at once gives me liberty to express myself freely without getting too controlling at an early stage. As I am working, each painting speaks to me differently. It is important to allow each painting to evolve naturally. When the meaning or idea emerges, I start to make decisions about color and composition to bring the work to completion.

“Overlay” This painting is about working in an abstract way with playful geometric shapes and building up layers to conceal and reveal the layers below.

Back to basics. Just black and white collage designs. Trying to brainstorm designs for abstract paintings.
Observe the negative spaces within the simple compositions creating dynamic tension.
Observe the repetition and placement of  similar shapes within the composition.

Remember how we made mixed media hearts from construction paper, glue, tissue, and glitter. Well, this is the grown-up version !!
Playing with the heart shape as any other shape - circle, square, etc. More than any other shape the heart shape has cliched feelings/ emotions attached to it and that makes it even more exciting to work with as an artist.

Love is In the Air

I have a tendency to organise shapes in simple thoughtful ways, so in the beginning i took simple cutout shapes and arranged them in a pleasing composition.

Circle, Square, Triangle

This was done in Jean Carter's class - geometric, abstract collage

In 2017, the MFA Boston had a wonderful exhibition of Matisse's cutouts. When i saw the show i was immediately taken by the simplicity and childlike plafulness of the cutouts. I think a seed was sown in my mind.
Then in 2018, i started researching collage work and found a friend who does this type of work, So earlier this year  (2019) i went to visit her, took a class with her - Jennifer H. - she was very kind and wonderful and taught me a few basics to get me started. In January, this year i also took a class with Jean Carter at the Concord Art Assoc. she taught me more about how to be free with shapes and how they all go together.

Here are a few examples of my collages inspired by Matisse-

"After the Winter" - Black and white lattice with Matisse inspired organic shapes with fonts.

Who doesn't smile when they see a sunflower?
The vivid alcohol ink colors make them come alive. The rich, bold color flows across the smooth, synthetic surface of  yupo paper to create lovely abstract patterns and translucent colors.

Nothing says “I love you” like red roses. The bold reds and pinks in this painting symbolizes love, beauty, courage, respect, and romantic love.
Alcohol inks allow me to find the most vivid reds and deep pinks for this occasion.

Beautiful blooms vividly captured in an abstract, impressionistic style. This imaginary floral composition captures the magnificent colors of nature using alcohol inks. The bold colors and imagery convey joy, beauty and graceful forms of nature.
