So many times I find that an old canvas provides fresh new inspiration! This was an older canvas where I have created a raised pattern with a new medium - molding paste - and then I fell in love with the pattern and could not move past that. So I put it aside.
Then a few days ago on a cleaning spree I found it and decided to be brave and ‘kill my darling’ pattern. Saving some of it and painting white over the rest. That opened up a host of opportunities. The rest is history as they say.
So many lessons in this story!!!
1. Make a lot of work to allow your skills to catch up with your aesthetic.
2. Be patient
3. Build in layers
4. Enjoy the process and fall in love often
5. Try new things

30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge

My Theme for this challenge is going to be as the name suggests "Postcards from India" - I am going to combine my love for Indian art and my new love for painting contemperory abstracts into small paintings/postcards with Indian motifs. I am working from the many photos i took during my trips and creative abstract backgrounds.
I did the same series last year in 2015, it will be interesting to compare.
This painting has been donated to The Whistler House Museum for their 2016 holiday show.

Four by Four for Education

UMass Lowell Scholarship Exhibit and Event

Exhibit and Preview: March 7 to April 11, 2015

Event: April 11, 2 to 5 PM

The Four By Four raises funds for UMass Lowell Art Scholarship. This scholarship is granted to a deserving University of Massachusetts student majoring in the visual arts.
We asked visual artists to create a 4” by 4” work of art. The Brush Art Gallery provided a blank, stretched canvas. Artists created artwork with whatever media and materials they preferred.
The Event: The day of the event, guests buy tickets to the fundraiser and everyone leaves with a work of art. Names are drawn at random and your place in line is determined by the drawing. Be prepared with a list of choices.

Tickets are $25 and are purchased at the door.

This painting is sold to a lovely lady Elaine at the Weston Public Library "Summer Joy" show.

"Pomegranates symbolized to the early Jews a faith affirmation. They believed each pomegranate to contain 613 seeds, number which in fact corresponded to the number of the Torah commandments. Also, pomegranate is another suspect of being the original fruit of the Garden of Eden. In early Christian Art, the Virgin Mary is often depicted either with a pomegranate nearby, or in her hand. This was perhaps meant to symbolize the power Virgin Mary had over life and death, or the seed bearing the Son of God."
