Layers, layers, and more layers, that’s what this painting is all about.  Seeing how one covers the next and then revealing what’s underneath is fascinating.  I have recently been adding the use of collage, stencils , text and cut paper to the mix.  The  result is more nuance, depth, and interest.  Using the positive or negative of the stencil and then  adding paint to blur or soften the image gives it a nice richness and a sense of history.

These paintings are abstract works inspired by the work of Richard Diebenkorn. Over the course of more than 20 years, Richard Diebenkorn created 145 paintings for his Ocean Park series. They are remembered as "gentle portraits of California light.
My paintings reflect more of New England colors and New England light.
I used the colors that are native to where i live to create this abstract landscape.

If Monet was alive today, his haystacks would look like bales of hay. this painting is inspired by that thought. I have seen these in local farms, they have bales of hay for feed and mulch.

This painting is inspired by the landscape in my neighborhood. Always liked painting trees, specially white birch trees - i have a few in my neighborhood so i went for a walk and took some mental notes.
Came home to my studio and created a composition.

This painting was painted after a recent visit to Sedona, AZ . The beautiful landscape was mesmerizing.

30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge

My Theme for this challenge is going to be as the name suggests "Postcards from India" - I am going to combine my love for Indian art and my new love for painting contemperory abstracts into small paintings/postcards with Indian motifs. I am working from the many photos i took during my trips and creative abstract backgrounds.
I did the same series last year in 2015, it will be interesting to compare.
