"Flow State" - An Abstract Symphony of Blue and Orange

In a realm where colors dance and shapes come alive, the canvas of imagination births a masterpiece known as "Flow State." This abstract painting is a mesmerizing blend of vibrant blues and energetic oranges, forming a dynamic composition that beckons the viewer to dive deep into the current of creativity.

At first glance, the canvas appears to be a chaotic whirlwind of colors and lines. Swirling waves of deep cerulean blue seem to merge effortlessly with fiery tangerine orange, creating a harmonious yet electric contrast. The blue tones exude a sense of tranquility and calm, while the orange hues evoke passion and excitement, harmoniously coalescing into a captivating visual symphony.

The artist masterfully employs shapes and lines to guide the viewer's eye through the intricate maze of this abstract realm. Angular lines intersect with gentle curves, leading the observer on a journey of exploration and contemplation. The lines seem to weave a narrative, as if illustrating the path one takes to find their elusive flow state - a state of perfect harmony and peak performance.

Amidst the riot of colors and lines, patterns emerge, lending the painting an added layer of complexity and intrigue. Geometric shapes repeat in hypnotic rhythms, forming a cadence that resonates with the soul. The patterns offer a glimpse into the order within chaos, an acknowledgment that even in the most abstract realms, there exists an underlying structure.

"Flow State" captures the essence of being in the zone, that elusive moment when time fades away, and the artist is completely immersed in their creative flow. The canvas becomes a mirror, reflecting not only the artist's emotions and thoughts but also inviting the viewer to delve into their own introspection.

The title, "Flow State," is elegantly inscribed in the corner of the canvas, almost like a whispered secret, inviting the observer to ponder the meaning of this evocative artwork. Each viewer is encouraged to interpret the painting through their unique lens, finding their own narrative amidst the vivid interplay of colors, shapes, lines, and patterns.

As spectators gaze upon "Flow State," they are invited to let go of the constraints of reality and surrender to the abstract beauty before them. In this extraordinary symphony of blues and oranges, they are encouraged to explore the boundaries of their own imagination, experiencing the enigmatic and boundless journey that "Flow State" has to offer.

Acrylic and mixed media on wood panel

This painting has been reworked from an older painting from "Off The Grid" series.

‘A River Runs Through It’ is created for you to immerse yourself in a world of circles, lines, shapes and mark making as they reveal their inner secrets. This painting explores the subtle balance between order and chaos, darkness and light, structure and freedom, within the large format composition.

This is mixed media abstract and acrylic painting on a large wood panel. My process involves building up layers of paint and collage as I express myself emotionally. I work on multiple pieces at one time exploring the same idea or theme in different ways. Working on many pieces at once gives me liberty to express myself freely without getting too controlling at an early stage. As I am working, each painting speaks to me differently. It is important to allow each painting to evolve naturally. When the meaning or idea emerges, I start to make decisions about color and composition to bring the work to completion.

So many times I find that an old canvas provides fresh new inspiration! This was an older canvas where I have created a raised pattern with a new medium - molding paste - and then I fell in love with the pattern and could not move past that. So I put it aside.
Then a few days ago on a cleaning spree I found it and decided to be brave and ‘kill my darling’ pattern. Saving some of it and painting white over the rest. That opened up a host of opportunities. The rest is history as they say.
So many lessons in this story!!!
1. Make a lot of work to allow your skills to catch up with your aesthetic.
2. Be patient
3. Build in layers
4. Enjoy the process and fall in love often
5. Try new things

On another note i will be selling my paintings at LexArt open studios event on May 20 and 21, 2023.

Morning Walk

12" x12"

Mixed media on wood panel

There are two of these bird compositions with interesting abstract backgrounds that took a long time and a lot of experimentation to evolve into this exciting presentation.

Detailed black and white drawing juxtaposed with a textured, loose background makes for an exciting difference.

Mixedmedia green and yellow painting.

What attracts me to this painting?
Repeating shapes
Layers - some hidden/veiled
Complex color and value relationships
Eye movement around the painting
Visual textures, marks and lines
Wavering between depth and flatness.

Lyrical abstraction with a dynamic orthogonal composition. Orthogonal thinking draws from a variety of, and perhaps seemingly unrelated perspectives to achieve new insights - two systems that do not interact oe influence each other come together at one point or juncture. Two lines intersecting each other at 90 degrees.

How do you feel about green? What about green with some roses?

Beautiful greens always remind me of the landscape after the rain. many artists have tried to capture these inspiring fleeting moments including Vincent van Gogh. This painting has snippets of those washed out colors in the landscape around my home.

The second image shows details of the work with truer colors.

$600 for all 3

In this series i am playing with different scales of pattern, scribbles, loose lines, collage, stencils, and paint transfers contrasting with large scale solid areas. The energy in these works comes from the use of a variety of lines and hidden texts. My focus was on lost and found edges, including veiling, and keeping a lightness and freshness in the work. The loose brushwork and mark-making contrasts beautifully with defined pattern.

All 3 paintings are intuitive and was an opportunity to explore the creative process.

Ode To Lightbulbs is currently on view at the Essex Art Center in Lawrence MA at their annual salon show https://shop.essexartcenter.org/

Dahlia
24" x 36"

Large mixed media and acrylic

$1,775

This large abstract mixed media and collage painting reminds me of Monet's painting of Dahlias, except when you look closely at my flowers, each flower, leaf and vase is a mini abstract painting. Several layers of paint and collage were used to create this work. Some past layers are visible at closer inspection.

It was fun painting this, almost like putting a puzzle together .

If you want to make a white painting start with a lot of colors !! Once all those endless shapes, squiggles, and marks make no sense at all begin to shape your true vision of deciding what to keep and what to leave out. This push and pull is what created this abstract painting. I am very happy with the results so named it Euphoria.

"Euphoria" is an tranquil abstract painting layered with soothing white, purple, yellow, and grey, intertwined with a myriad of other colors. An ecstatic dance of hues, shapes, and textures radiates boundless joy and elation, evoking a euphoric experience for the beholder, transcending the limits of conventional expression.

12" x 12" mixed media on board $250 I love the beautiful colors and shapes of old bottles, they make excellent still life subjects. Ofcourse these bottles are imaginary and have more to do with the artistic creation of a still life painting than with any original antique bottle. The accidental resemblance is purely coincidental! lol! The blue/green and red/orange complimentary color scheme pull your eye into the painting and the gental translucent layers provide relaxation to hold your attention. The title "Bottled Up" is a reaction to the current pandameic situation. Stay Happy! stay Healthy! and stay at home!

The King and Queen of Hearts.

I have always wanted to paint the characters in a cards deck.

Disney characters, comic characters, Alice in Wonderland characters so here is a small 6”x6” painting of the King and Queen of Hearts. This is intended to be a fun set and would be a cool feature in any room. It is mixed media on wooden board. Original artwork.

Makes an excellent gift for fans of pop culture, poker players, romantic couples bedroom decor.

Abstract art is " art that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality but instead use shapes, colors, forms and gestural marks to achieve its effect." Wassily Kandinsky.

This abstract painting can also be appreciated in terms of all the individual, visual elements of art: color, shape, line, texture, space, value, etc. It uses colors and textures to their best visual strength to create a sound composition from these elements.

Beautiful mixed media floral abstract still life. Although now almost completely abstracted the idea came from Van Gogh's sunflower paintings. It includes lots of mixed media textures, lines, drips, splashes and mark making.

This painting is a small study for a larger painting. Hope you guessed Andy is Andy Warhol.

"Warhol’s 1964 series Flowers, however, is a refreshing and surprising departure from the artists’ initial themes of pop culture and commercialism, and every spring, critics are reminded of the influence that his nature-focused work continues to have on the art world."

Mixed media on paper

This painting reminds me of Fall/ Autumn colors. Autumn is a wonderful time in New England when the green color on leaves of trees and shrubs change to various shades of yellow, orange, red and brown. This mixed media still life painting is an ode to the season.

Mixed media on paper

This painting has a playful and childlike feeling. The beauty is in the details. Eg. did you notice the line going from A to Z. Many fun accent shapes to see as well, The colors are kept almost neutral so you can enjoy the details.

Fruit Bowl
12" x 12"
Acrylic and mixed media on gallery-wrapped canvas
SOLD

This painting is inspired by the one thing that is present in almost every home - a fruit bowl. A dish, vessel, tureen, pot, container to hold produce. Because it is such a universal idea it holds a lot of fascination for me as a painter. I had a lot of fun coming up with the colors and textures for this painting.
Drawing some of the fruits in was a last minute decision because just leaving it as an abstract painting might not appeal to everyone.

Summer Arrangement
Large alcohol ink and acrylic on yupo

Beautiful blooms vividly captured in an abstract, impressionistic style. This imaginary floral composition captures the magnificent colors of nature using alcohol inks. The bold colors and imagery convey joy, beauty and graceful forms of nature.

Red lotus
Mixed media on watercolor paper
16" x 12"
$175 (framed)

Trying to play/experiment with the background going back and objects coming forward in mixed media.I used the familiar lotus image for my experiment.
Anyone who has ever seen the beauty of a lotus emerge from a murky pond cannot deny it's beauty. It's purity and beauty might be the reason it is so sacred in many Asian cultures.
