Acrylic and mixed media on canvas
12" x24"

"Portals of Discovery" is a mixed media abstract painting that evolved over a long period of time. It has several layers of techniques including painting, drawing, collage, and print and mark making and several abstract elements of art – color, shape, line, texture,. The composition has gone through several stages- it began as a simple collage with suspended circles and has evolved into this more complex  dichotomy.
This painting began with a loose idea of hanging shell chimes that are sold in all beach shops.
I always wanted to paint an abstract with this color combination, mainly red, black and white ( there are other colors if you look closely) and I am finally happy with the results.

Happy to mention that this painting made it into the :Portals" show - as "Portals of Discovery"

Opening January 6, 2017

"A man of genius makes no mistakes; his errors are volitional and are the portals of discovery."

As we move from 2016 into the new year, "Portals" is an exploration of the doorways & gateways from one realm to the next, whether it be Earth to the Heavens, a gateway into our artistic inner world and visions, or a metaphor for the stages of our lives. Art, in essence, is a portal.

A reminder to artists that The Gallery @ CCA's next show, "Portals" is seeking works in all media, ready for gallery presentation (make sure your work has a wire on it).  This exhibit will open on January 6 and run until Febraury 19, 2017.  The Opening Reception is Friday, January 6, 5:30-7:30pm.  The Gallery will be open Saturdays and Sundays, 1:00-4:00pm.
