The Northern Cardinal or Redbird or Common Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) is a North American bird in the genus Cardinalis. It can be found in southern Canada, through the eastern United States from Maine to Texas and south through Mexico. It can also be found on the Big Island of Hawaii and on Oahu. It is found in woodlands, gardens, shrublands, and swamps.
The Northern Cardinal is found in residential areas and visits my bird feeder often. It is a migratory bird. The male bird has this vivid red color and sings in a loud, clear whistle from the top of a tree or another high location to defend his territory. He will chase off other males entering his territory.

This painting is framed (below)and will make an excellent Christmas/Thanksgiving gift or for a nice spot in the office.

  1. Great work on the Cardinal, but I also like how you did the branch. The soft, out of focus background in greens works perfectly behind the red.
